Much more laid back than Bangkok, these northern
cities possess a distinctive character, carved out by the mixture
of modern cityscape with mountains, rainforest, tribal villages and
rivers. The gateway to Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai has in excess
of 300 temples which makes for a visually striking city centre with
a mountain backdrop. To the east and on a smaller scale is Chiang
Rai, which is equally as charming with the unique, sparkling white
Wat Rong Khun temple and areas of natural beauty. We believe both
Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai make ideal bases from which to explore
the beautiful northern provinces.
