Along Phuket's beautiful west coast, the sandy white beaches sit between rocky headlands and sweeping bays. However, to see some of the island's best sights, you'll need to don flippers and a diving mask and make for some of Phuket's extraordinary dive sites - it even has its own Marine National Park at Sirinat.

For peace and quiet, Surin, on the west coast, makes the perfect hideaway. The exclusive Karon Bay is a sophisticated resort that is welcoming to families, while nearby Kata Beach gives off an exclusive vibe of elegant sophistication. Patong is a lively resort, full of young people out to have fun, great for watersports and nightlife, while Rawai Beach is the place to chill out at the beach bar. For an interesting day out, take a long-tail boat out to Ko Panyi to see the bustling fishing village, built on stilts over the sea, beneath soaring limestone cliffs. There are several good restaurants for an unforgettable seafood lunch.
