- Overview
The sun kissed Cayman Islands are located in the warm waters of the western Caribbean, nestled in a particularly picturesque spot between Cuba and Jamaica. Grand Cayman is the place to be for the best sight seeing and great nightlife. The Caymans are one of the world's top dive destinations with more than 159 dives sites in Grand Cayman including the World's Best 12 Foot Dive Stringray City. The Reef's offer a variety of beautiful marine life with most dive sites just minutes offshore.
The Cayman Islands were originally discovered by Christopher Columbus just over 500 years ago. Since then many other people have made their own discovery of this gorgeous landscape, leading to the multi-cultural society enjoyed today. The magnificent coastline and glorious turquoise waters mean that many of the best activities are based in and around the water. What's more, the waters are protected by the Marine Parks Programme, helping them to remain as eco-friendly as possible. Scuba divers can explore some of the world's best reefs, including the famous Bloody Bay Wall.
The largest and best known of the islands is Grand Cayman. For a good choice of restaurants and an interesting day out in general take a trip to the capital, Georgetown. The duty free port makes it an ideal place for buying jewellery and perfume at bargain prices. Georgetown is also where you can catch the island's best boat trips, such as a glass-bottomed boat or a submarine trip. Another fun thing to do is to take a trip to Hell and back again! Yes the island really does have a place called Hell. It's situated on the northern tip of the island and gets its name from the bizarre calcified coral formation that can be found there. Elsewhere on the island there's the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, set in 65 acres of glorious greenery with exotic blooms. For a real experience of a lifetime book yourself a trip to Stingray City to see the local stingray population. The clarity of the water makes them easy to see and you can even feel them brush past you.
